Coach Profile: Vitor Imbuziero, Program Director
If you have been to the Auerbach School in the last decade, you know Coach Vitor Imbuziero. He is our Program Director, and for ten years he has been one of the people most responsible for what happens on the floor from the first station of the morning to the last team game at night. Here is a little about where he comes from and why he keeps coming back.
A coach who has worked all over the world
Vitor's basketball life did not start in Massachusetts. He was a professional basketball player in Brazil before he was a coach, and that playing background shows in how he teaches. He has since worked camps in Japan, Brazil, Italy, and his own camp in Michigan.
His coaching resume covers most of the levels a young player might aspire to. A few of the stops:

That is a lot of gyms in a lot of countries. It is also, we think, part of why he fits so well here. The Auerbach School has grown from mostly local campers to international attendance, with young men from the U.S., Wales, Nova Scotia, Iceland and Italy playing and competing together in the same week. A Program Director who has coached in Brazil and Japan and Michigan is comfortable with a gym full of accents.
"The greatest camp I know"
Vitor has worked plenty of well-known camps here in the United States. We do not need to sell you on the Auerbach School, because he does it for us. In his own words:
I look forward most to the Auerbach School, the greatest camp I know.
We will take that. When someone who has seen camps on three continents says that, it means something to us, and we hope it means something to you as a parent deciding where to send your son for a week.
How the staff describes him
On our staff page we describe Vitor as dynamic, knowledgeable and a terrific leader. Those are not words we use loosely. Our staff is made up of coaches who have been with the school for a long time, and many of them have known each other and worked alongside each other for years. Vitor has earned his place in that group.
The program he directs is built on a simple commitment that School Director Steve Curley and his veteran staff have kept for a very long time:

That is the whole job, really. The goal is for everyone, at all talent levels, to have a positive experience and to leave wanting to grow as an athlete, a student and a person. A Program Director's day is spent making sure that happens for every camper, not just the best ones. We are not a select camp, and the program Vitor runs reflects that.
What a week with Coach Vitor looks like
Our days are full. Campers are up at 7:30 in the morning and lights are out at 11:00 at night, and in between there are stations, games, a lecture, team games, and evening competitions and challenges. We teach, we drill, we compete, we challenge, and we have a ton of fun. Somebody has to keep all of that moving and make sure the teaching is good, and that is where a Program Director with Vitor's background earns his keep.
Our lectures are not always about basketball, either. We care about your son's education, his academics, and the value of family, and the staff who deliver those lectures are the same coaches who run the drills. Campers see the same faces all week, on the court and off it.
